Thanks for the link to the Sunshine production blog! I’ll try and get more production videos up there, too. I put a few unseen, behind-the-scenes photos from the set up here a few months ago: https://giagia.substack.com/p/sunshine-behind-the-scenes

You’re welcome! Those pictures are so good (that one of the Icarus 1 crew needs to be an album cover). Did you get to do this kind of thing for any other films, before or since?

The only person who had done this kind of thing before the Sunshine blog was Peter Jackson! Fox Searchlight wanted a production diary done for Sunshine, but no one really knew what to do. Danny, Alex and Andrew Macdonald had met my husband and got him on board as the science consultant. At the end of the meeting Andrew asked him if he knew anyone who knew anything about blogging. 'Talk to my wife. She's a blogger.' So I went in to meet Andrew, wrote a proposal, told him that Fox's idea that a blog would cost $250,000 was ridiculous, I could do it for [considerably less]... We got on really well and he hired me. I had a Wordpress blog up and running in the first hour or so that I started, but Fox wouldn't let it go live until they had a billion meetings about it. I turned up on set every day and did posts about what was going on... I think it finally went live in October?? I started in August... I ended up working on it for 2 years. It fried my brain... About 2 years after the film came out, Fox deleted everything. Luckily, the producer owned the URL and I'd saved everything. I've only put stuff up that was specifically about the film. I'd also written tons of stuff about the mythology and science of the Sun... I did stuff for loads of other films (eg 28 Weeks Later, Juno, The X-Files, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Gravity, Ex Machina, Annihilation etc) but never another production blog.

“It’ll be tight, but I can just about bring it in for $240,000.”
