This week’s pile o' links. I’ve been doing a spot of interviewing for Creative Review recently and now I’ve got the itch to interrogate more people. Still getting to grips with newslettering's new economic model, but would be keen to hear if anyone would be interested in Q&A editions of Meanwhile, perhaps as a paid tier … ? Slap reply and let me know your thoughts.
Máximo Tuja – Loving the deranged geometry in the work of this Barcelona-based collage artist and illustrator. I’ve been reading a lot about John Baldessari recently, and once you start noticing his influence on modern collage, you realise he’s everywhere.
Greg Williams x Bond – It’s finally James Bond day! On-set photographer throughout Daniel Craig’s tenure, Greg Williams has some fantastic behind the scenes photos of the movies, a worthy continuation of Terry O’Neill’s iconic black and white images from the Connery-Brosnan era. Well worth delving into the rest of his work too, full of beautiful famous sorts, accompanied by little video commentaries and tips from Williams.
We Made This – Alistair Hall has put together this wonderful rabbit hole of graphic design history resources, a welcome alternative to “the massive gravity of Google Image Search and Pinterest, which exert a pull that students find hard to escape”. It’s certainly going to keep me busy … although yes, I may end up pinning a lot of what I find, just to make matters worse.
Kerning vs Spacing – Typeface designer Riley Cran has been tweeting some fantastic threads recently, elucidating the fundamentals of typography with helpful illustrative GIFs. This one’s particularly good, clearing up terminology that I still manage to muddle up on a regular basis.
That is all.
