Well here we are again. Because I’m a glutton for punishment and I can’t leave well enough alone, I’ve redesigned my website. This week I’m toying with a blog-as-portfolio approach, which seems like a sensible way to showcase the design and writing feathers of my cap, plus the odd collage experiment like this square thing here. And it’s strangely cathartic; a way to organise all the thoughts and influences and processes bouncing around my head, looking for somewhere to settle. As Nora Ephron said, “a blog is sort of like an exhale”.
I did all this while listening to my new favourite podcast, Ben Travis and Sam Summers’ Disniversity; a crash course through the history of Disney’s animated classics. They’re joined in the latest episode by The Mitchells vs the Machines director Michael Rianda to discuss One Hundred and One Dalmatians, a film I love even more after watching the unexpectedly wonderful Cruella.
More links to clutter up your tabs: Rosemary Hill on the life and work of Edward Gorey; the story of the MiniDisc; a fab collection of BBC Year Book covers; the Matt Needle-designed soundtrack to Edgar Wright’s The Sparks Brothers is going straight to the top of my wishlist; Tokyo minus signs, cables, etc; five issues old, Senet is a magazine about the craft, creativity and community of board gaming; AIGA’s annual 50 Books|50 Covers thing is always worth a look; relocate your darlings.
That is all.
