Meanwhile #165
This week’s visual digest, a little treat to keep your retinas busy until the weekend.
Discovered the stunning work of Vietnamese artists and illustrator Thinh Dinh thanks to his cover for Second Sight’s new It Follows packaging. So much to look at on his site – how beautiful and slightly terrifying is this portrait of Magdalena Frackowiak in Alexander McQueen?
Catching up on BOOOOOOOM’s annual photo awards, I can’t stop looking at this stunning image by French photographer Ophélie Maurus. Not sure where or when or why it was taken, but goodness me, the colour.
Recently posted by The Made Shop Creative Director Marke Johnson, this wonderful spooky accident (at least I assume it was – hard to deliberately capture something this wild). Reminds me of the opening credits of Richard Donner’s Superman.
Currently Kickstarting, a new monograph showcasing the work of Polish poster artist Aleksander Walijewski. Particularly loving the piece chosen of the cover, this one for The Queen’s Gambit. A lot going on there, but somehow it doesn’t feel cluttered. Once again, the colour. THE COLOUR.
Torn Movie Poster by Walker Evans, 1930. Not sure I can add much, it’s just a wonderful photo. Also worth a look: Penguin Modern Classics’ John Steinbeck series, featuring Evans’ Polaroids, a format he turned to much later in his career (stating “nobody should touch a Polaroid until he’s over 60“).
